History and Formation

Williams Lake is a natural inland lake that became historically significant during the late 1800s because of marl excavation operations around the shoreline.

The lake was named after the Williams family, who owned a large portion of the surrounding land.

In 1973, a portion of land on the southeast side of the lake was preserved as natural land through conservation ownership.
